Terroir
The term “Terroir" was introduced by French wine enthusiasts, and today it is increasingly used talking about agri-food product; in other languages as well as in Italian it is translated into “territory", so a bit inaccurate because it might confuse and induce to think only of the aesthetic beauty of landscapes or their conformation.
In France it was coined to refer to the interaction between several factors interactiong with wine: the soil on which the plant is grown, the climatic trend of the area, the history of viticulture in that area, the value that the wine itself had for those who consume it and with the citizens of the area, the matching of wine with typical dishes, etc.
So, more than a term, Terroir must be understood as an abstract concept.
Applying the same abstract concept to a place, it is possible to talk about Terroir of a place. It is then referred to a place considering several aspects, all to be discovered and all to be lived: food and wine, industrial sector, sociality, services, leisure, events, culture and art in all its forms, the people who live it, the tourists who visit it.
