PROTECTED NATURAL AREAS OF PUGLIA.

13.8% of the Apulian regional territory is covered by protected natural areas.

In Puglia we find:

  • 2 national parks
  • 3 marine protected areas
  • 16 state reserves
  • 18 regional protected areas

These numbers make Puglia and its land almost a unique area thanks to its biodiversity and biogeographical position. Puglia is a natural bridge between Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean.

In Italy there are about 6,000 known plant species, 2,500 (over 41%) are in Puglia, which also houses ten different species of oaks. While 47 natural habitats are present, out of a total of 142 surveyed in Europe.
